DAYLIGHT SAVINGS TIME CHANGES
This year, Congress has decided to start Daylight Savings Time early. Unfortunately, no one told our computers this. As a result, on March 10th, 2007, millions of computers in the US will display a time an hour earlier than it actually is and won't change for another two weeks.
Of course, for those who have adjusted their time, the computer will automatically adjust to Daylight Savings Time on the right day (about March 24th) and you will leap another hour into the future. To avoid this, it is best to disable the automatic adjustment for daylight savings time.
1. Right-click on the clock display in the lower-right hand corner of the screen (If you don't see one there, click Start, go to Settings/Control Panel and click on Date/Time) and click Adjust Date/Time.
2. Click on the Time Zone tab.
3. Uncheck the "Automatically adjust for Daylight Savings Time" box.
4. Click Apply. Click OK.
When it comes time to adjust your time:
1. Right-click on the clock display in the lower-right hand corner of the screen (If you don't see one there, click Start, go to Settings/Control Panel and click on Date/Time) and click Adjust Date/Time.
2. Double-click into the hour area of the time and type in the hour (add one hour for Daylight Savings Time and subtract one hour for Standard time).
3. Click Apply. Click OK.
This will help keep your computer from a timing snafu ala Y2K. If you have other electronic devices that display time, you should check the device's settings through the handbook or with your device's manufacturer.
